You will notice the difference...
1. How much for an uncontested divorce (one where there will be no arguing)? $800.00 (this includes the filing fee)
2. How much for a contested divorce (one where there will be negotiations, etc)? $1,500.00 minimum retainer that could go up as the case warrants. Most cases include mediation which is an additional fee to the mediator. You will be billed at an hourly rate of $150.00 per hour against the retainer. When it is used up, you will be billed for additional time.
3.Do you do adoptions? Yes
Stepparent adoption: $800.00 plus filing fee of $142.00 if the other parent will sign off with no problems.
Stepparent adoption with getting the other party to sign: $1,000.00 plus filing fee.
Adoption w/Agency: $1,000.00
4. How do I get an emergency protective order?
If you are in fear of your life, go to the Justice Center on Kentucky Street and file an emergency protective order with the Court. You will get a court date … if you feel you need representation, call an attorney to schedule an appointment for him/her to go with you to the hearing. You will receive an immediate order until the date of the hearing at which time there will be a permanent order.
